Proposal and planning for a Gazebo:

A proposal to build a gazebo in place of the patio soft tent that existed outside the clubhouse. At this time the general membership is asked to comment on the proposal, and to aid in refining the plan and calculating a material cost.

Gazebo and Tent

Basically this is a 16' x 28' structure with a simple sloped roof, 6'6" to 9' in height. The high side would be towards the clubhouse, the low side towards the target field - this will maximize the protection from the sun.

There would be space for two or three picnic tables, and access to the BBQ under the protection of the roof.

The posts would be 4"x4", secured either to a concrete footing or sunk into the ground 3' with a self-hardening concrete fill.

The stretchers sideways between the posts would be 4"x4", either resting atop the posts or secured with hangers. The preference is atop so as to minimize the visible hardware such as hangers. The posts would be approximately 7' apart.

The trusses between posts would be doubled 2"x4" or 2"x6" 17' to 18' in length every 7'. Between these trusses would be a single 2"x4" or 2"x6" truss, or more as building code warrants.

The roof is preferred to not be plywood with asphalt shingles, rather a 12"x1"x8' plank, either butted against each other so as to provide a rainproof surface, or stepped with an air gap so as to maximize airflow and minimize water infiltration. In the images the step design has been used
